Day 1 Saturday
Fès
Arrival in Fès and transfer either from the airport or
Central station to the hotel. Dinner and
accommodation in Fès.
Day 2 Sunday
Fès - Oujda
In the morning sightseeing of Fès. Departure by the
regular train at 16.20h to Oujda. Transfer to the
hotel. Dinner and accommodation in Oujda.
Day 3 Monday
Oujda
In the morning sightseeing Oujda. Optional trip to
Saidia, the newly developed leisure region with
great, untouched beaches. Dinner and overnight in
Oujda.
Day 4 Tuesday
Our trip with the Oriental Desert Train –
305km -
This is the highlight of our trip! We climb into the
Desert Train and head off for Bouarfa. Our first
stop will be Beni Oukil. Then crossing a fertile
plateau with many goats and shepherds.
Now we
arrive at the slopes of the Jbel massive ascending
up to1104m. In Guenfouda the train will stop and
we can Step outside to take some pictures.
We then
continue to another plateau and move over a
mountain saddle. Our train is passing now the
Tiouli tunnel, built in 1930, and from now on the
rails lead in big loops through grain fields until we
reach Beni Mathar.
This place war during ‘Worlds
War II an important strategic base for the French
and so we will find to our surprise a catholic
church. Nowadays, Beni Mathar became known for
its huge solar power station, financed by the World
Bank Beni Mathar is also know for its several small
cascades.
Now we continue our way and with a “speed” of
50km/h we are reaching Tendrara, lying in a height
of 1400m.There we will find a water basin,
supplying the 20.000 inhabitants of this mountain
region. This was the final place for many Jews
being deported by the French occupants, finding
shelter here in the middle of nowhere.
Leaving Tendrara, the landscape is changing from
bush grass to dunes and here and there some nomad
tents.
Very often, the rails are covered by sand and
have to be shovelled free to continue our trip. It will
take us from 10 up to 12 hours until we finally
reach Bouarfa.
We are leaving the train and proceed
to our hotel in Bouarfa for dinner and
accommodation.
Day 5 Wednesday
Bouarfa – Erfoud - Merzouga – Erfoud
Today we continue our trip by bus via Mangoub to
Boudnib and then to Erfoud and Merzouga to the
impressive golden dunes. Dinner and overnight at
the Kasbah Tizimi.
Day 6 Thursday
Erfoud – Meknes (ca 360km)
We will drive today via Errachidia, Midelt and
Azrou passing through the Cedar Forest of the
Middle Atlas Mountains, reaching Meknes, one of
the Imperial Cities. Dinner and overnight at our
hotel in Meknes.
Day 7 Friday
Meknes – Fes (60km)
Sightseeing of Meknes, Volubilis and Moulay
Idriss and then continue to Fès, another one of the
Four Imperial Cities. Dinner and overnight our
hotel in Fès.
Day 8 Saturday
Return trip or extension
After breakfast transfer to Fes airport or Central
Station.
